Lebanese Leaders Condemn Deadly Explosion in Beirut

Lebanese leaders unanimously condemned the deadly explosion that hit Beirut's southern neighborhood of Haret Hreik Thursday, saying that terrorists are targeting the Lebanese people, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Lebanese President Michel Suleiman said that the terrorists that carried out the blast in Haret Hreik were planning to destruct all the Lebanese regions.

He stressed in a statement by his media office on "the importance of solidarity and of awareness of the dangers threatening Lebanon."

"Dialogue is also important between political leaders to protect the country against conspiracies aimed at shaking its stability," he added.

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri considered those behind Thursday's blast the same group that assassinated former Finance Minister Mohammed Shatah on Friday and planted bombs in the northern city of Tripoli.

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said: "terrorists do not want stability for the country; they instead plan and execute a despicable plot that aims to promote sedition."
